Internet has changed the way you communicate, to the extent that it is now your everyday communication. You use the Internet, from ordering a pizza or monthly grocery, buying clothes or any other item, instant messaging, sending pictures or videos, sharing a live moment with a friend/ family.

 

Internet is sometimes referred as the Net, It is a huge network of computers network of inter-connected computers, where one computer can be connected to any other computer in part of the world. Hence, it is a network of networks.

 

It has not only made the communication easy but also provides with the the following ways:

 

Large volume of information: The key to success of Internet is the information to collect information from around the world. This information could relate to education, medicine, literature, software, computers, business, entertainment, tourism or leisure. Moreover, you can learn online, watching educational videos.

News and Journals: All the newspapers, magazines and journals of the world are available Internet. It can also be in the form of blogs, web feeds or newsgroups.

 

·      blog is a frequently updated online personal diary or informative article on a specific topic articles that are uploaded on a blog are called posts. It is a place where you express your thoughts and ideas to the world.

 

·      Web feeds are updates about the new content available on the websites. If you subscribe to certain websites, they will send you user updates on any new content.

 

·      Newsgroups are like discussion groups or forums on the Internet. It is the place where people discus on topics of various interests.

 

Electronic mode of communication: You can send an E-mail to anybody in the world, anytime. Also, you can chat by sending and receiving real-time messages over the Internet.

 

Online banking (Net-banking): All the banks offers online banking facilities to its customers, such a transfer funds from one account to another, doing fixed deposits.

E-commerce: Internet is also used for carrying out business operations and these set of operations is known as electronic commerce (E-commerce). Flipkart, Amazon are e-commerce companies. The advantages include, it is accessible round the clock. The price comparison and quality comparison of the products and services is possible. You need not travel; get stuck in traffic or face parking constraints as in real-world shopping. The disadvantage being that you cannot touch and feel the item. Online stores often fail to offer warranties and guarantees. Returning an item online is also a cumbersome process than in local stores.

 

Mobile commerce: Mobile commerce (also M-Commerce) refers to the commercial transaction that takes place over the mobile internet using the mobile apps.

 

Mobile wallet: Many companies offer the service of mobile wallet to its customers. Users must have a smart-phone and Internet connection to use this service. Users can pay an amount into their mobile wallet, which they can use to make online payment such as bill payments, recharges, etc.

 

Online reservation: It is a method of booking tickets for railway or flight journeys. An e-ticket (electronic ticket) is a paperless electronic document used for ticketing passengers.

 

Entertainment: Apart from a major source of knowledge and information, the utility of Internet in the field of entertainment cannot be undermined. You can visit various sites to watch movies and series, listen and download music at your convenient time. Also, you can play online games in your free time.

 

Social networking: You can connect with old friends on social networking sites. You can even chat or share pictures. A few websites have groups or communities, activities or games where the users can participate. For example, Twitter, You Tube, Facebook, LinkedIn and so on.

 

·      Twitter

 

It is an online social networking service where users post and interact with messages known as tweets. The term tweeting refers to posting short messages for anyone who follows you on Twitter, with the expectation that your messages are useful to your twitter audience. Twitter and tweeting might be referred as micro blogging.

 

Tweets were originally restricted to 140 characters, but on November 7, 2017, this limit was doubled to 280. Registered users can post, like and retweet tweets but unregistered users can only read them. Users access Twitter through its website interface.

 

You can join with a free account and Twitter name. Then send tweets daily, hourly or as frequently as you like. Go to the What's Happening box, type 280 or fewer characters and click Tweet. People who follow you and others will see your tweet.

 

·      Facebook

 

It is the most widely used social networking website where users can share status, updates, pictures, videos and web content with their friends. f

 

It was founded by Mark Zuckerberg, along with fellow Harvard College students namely, Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes. The founders initially limited the website's membership to Harvard students and subsequently Columbia, Stanford and Yale students. Membership was eventually expanded to various other universities. Since 2006, anyone who claims to be at least 13 years old has been allowed to become a registered user of Facebook, though this may vary depending on local laws.

 

·      Instagram

 

It is a popular social networking website for instantly enhancing photographs and videos owned by Facebook, Inc. It was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger and launched in October 2010. The app allows users to upload photos and videos to the service, which can be edited with various filters and organized with tags and location information.

 

·      YouTube

 

YouTube is an American video-sharing website headquartered in San Bruno, California. Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim created the service in February 2005. Google bought the site in November 2006.

 

·      WatsApp

 

WhatsApp Messenger is a freeware, cross-platform messaging and Voice over IP (VoIP service owned by Facebook. It allows sending of text messages and voice messages, making voice and video calls as well as sharing images, documents, user location and other media.
